Ready for an at home bikini wax or full Brazilian wax? Here are a few tips to keep your skin happy & healthy.
This summer, us Blend Babes have incorporated several new self-care practices into our beach ready routines. DIY Bikini waxing is a big one on that list. When you are waxing, either basic bikini or full Brazilian, there are a few tips that you should know before getting near your goods.
1. Exfoliation Is Your Friend.
As your hair reaches the quarter inch mark and you are getting ready to beautify your lady parts, exfoliate in advance! The day or two before waxing exfoliate the area with a loofah or sugar scrub to remove the dried skin, better exposing the follicles. BE GENTLE!! You do not want to irritate your skin prior to waxing.

2. Shower Power Hour!
The best time to wax is right after a hot shower when the skin is clean, soft, and your pores are open. Dry off the area and get waxing. To ensure the area is dry, you can apply baby powder prior to waxing.
3. Things to Avoid Prior to Your Wax.
You should not use any moisturizing products such as lotions and oils before waxing. You should also avoid cleaning with an alcohol solution because it can dry out the area. Just relax in your hot shower, dry off and get waxing!
4. Test Run.
Before applying the wax to your sensitive area, make sure to first test out the temperature on a small spot on your wrist.
5. Ease In.
When performing your bikini wax you want to ease in. First start on your inner thighs. This area is least sensitive and has less hair density. Then you should move inward as you wax.
6. When Pulling, Opposites Attract!
When you are waxing make sure to apply with the grain and pull against the grain. Before applying the wax feel the area to identify which way your hair grows. Tip: Against the grain will feel tougher with more resistance. Once you have identified which way your hair grows, you can apply the wax with the grain, the direction with least resistance. Then you will pull off the strip against the grain, the direction with most resistance.
7. Post Op.
Once you are waxed you are not quite bikini ready! Right after waxing you want to make sure to soothe and protect the now exposed follicles. It is best to use an antimicrobial moisturizer; our favorite is coconut oil because it soothes while fighting bacteria. For the next few days after waxing you will also want to gently exfoliate the area to help avoid ingrown hairs. BUT wait until after 24 hours to do so, the skin needs time to recover prior to exfoliation.
